11-year-old Charlie Palmer was always the odd one in his classroom even when he was in Ohio Montessori Schools. He thought things would be different once his mom got a new job and they moved – thereby, making him enroll into a new school. Everything he hoped for happened, except that nothing was different. A week after he went unnoticed, he noticed Julie Burgess and thought she was the prettiest girl in class. All his attempts to talk to Julie were sabotaged by himself. What was worse was the fact that the bully of the class, Big Jon, had wrapped himself around the quiet Julie long before Charlie enrolled into the school. This further made it impossible for Charlie to get anywhere close to his big crush. Soon enough, it was February and Mrs. Janet, their class teacher, asked them to be more friendly with one another and appreciate each other more. “Show the love you have been scared to show for a long time.” That statement was enough to boost Charlie’s courage. He wrote a letter to Julie telling her how beautiful he thought she was and how much he liked her. He thought, at last, he would get to talk to the girl whose eyes have caught his countless times over the past month. He slipped the letter into her locker when she was not looking. Unfortunately, Big Jon found the letter when he was snooping around Julie’s locker. He exposed it to the whole class, and they mocked him for days. Julie, being the quiet girl she was, did not say anything to the issue. It was a day to Valentine, and Charlie Palmer was walking alone, along the path that led to his house when Julie ran up to him, and for the very first time, they spoke, to the thrill of Charlie. At the end of the conversation, Julie said the words that made his month. “Charlie, I like you a lot, and I would love to exchange gifts with you tomorrow.” The next day, Julie did not only confront Big Jon and told him to stay clear of her and Charlie, but she also held hands with Charlie throughout the break after exchanging gifts. After the incident, to Charlie’s surprise, every other boy in the class wanted to be his friend. At the end of Valentine’s Day, Charlie was not only friends with the prettiest girl in school, he was also friends with a lot of other boys. He was tucked into bed that night with a big smile on his face, hoping that if it was all a dream, he does not wake up from such pleasantness.
